About
widdershins, adverb: in a direction opposite the sun’s course.
Hi! We’re Karen and Greg Phillips. Greg is a software engineering professor, juggler, unicyclist, and distance runner. Karen is a bellydancer, bellydance teacher and poi spinner. Greg is on a year-long research sabbatical starting in July of 2023, and he can do his work from anywhere, so we’ve chosen to spend the year taking one lap around the globe, widdershins. We’re trying to do it all by ship, train, bus, and car, rather than flying, because that’s (maybe) less carbon-intensive, and (obviously) more awesome.
Update: Australia to New Zealand and back defeated us, so there are now two flights on the itinerary.
This blog is a travel diary for ourselves and anyone else who wants to follow along. If you’d like an email when we post something new, you can sign up for our mailing list. We’ll also post links on Facebook, and this site provides an RSS feed for the three people out there who still use feed readers.
